Critical Care Nurse Practitioner
The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner is a professional nurse with
advanced education in the care of adult, critically ill patients.
Under the direction of the Adult Critical Care Medical Director,
participates in daily patient management of a caseload of critical
care patients and their families. Works independently, demonstrating a
high level of skill in independent decision making and judgment, and
as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Facilitates medical and
nursing care of the critically ill patient, and his/her family, as
defined in the Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice. Based on
protocols/standards of critical care, contributes to the development,
implementation, and evaluation of multidisciplinary therapeutic plans
of care. In collaboration with the intensivists, is accountable for
the quality of care provided, and the clinical management of patients
that include fluid and blood product administration, analgesic
management and procedures done at the bedside. The Critical Care Nurse
Practitioner reports to the Director of Emergency, Trauma and Critical
Care Services for totality of work performance and professional
behavior. In addition, the Critical Care Nurse Practitioner is
accountable to the Adult Critical Care Medical Director and the
Clinical Managers of the Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit
for work performance in relation to patient care, staff education,
research and teamwork.

Requires Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field; and 3-5
years of recent (within last 3 years) Critical Care experience
including trauma. Current Registered Nurse license in State of
Colorado; Current Colorado Advanced Practice Nurse License, ACLS, BLS required. One to two years experience as a NP to include experience in caring for a variety of high acuity; critically ill patients; or
experience as a Flight Nurse preferred. CCRN; TNCC; ATLS preferred.
