Job Description Position Summary:
The charge registered nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for maternity/L&D patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Serves in the Resource Nurse role when oriented and as directed. Supports the organization vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. Coordinates the day to day operation of the unit by assigning patients to staff,
acting as a resource for equipment and standard of practice issues, and being a liaison between staff, physicians, case management as well as other departments.

Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that
demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.


Qualifications
Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Texas. BLS required and NRP required. ACLS and AWHONN fetal monitoring will be offered and required to obtain after completion of 6 months employment and required to renew within one year of expiration.


B. Education: Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program.

C. Experience: One year previous experience in L & D preferred, however 6 months of hospital medical-surgical is acceptable. Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition: “The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health alterations.” Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others. The successful candidate will be required to pass competencies for this position.
