
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Facilities Maintenance & Operations (FMO), South Island area or delegate, the Sterilizer Technician is responsible for providing specialized repair and maintenance to sterilizers and other critical hospital equipment throughout the South Island area. The Sterilizer Technician carries out electrical and mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance at the factory-trained (Specialist) service level for a variety of hospital equipment, generally focusing on Central Sterilization and Reprocessing (CSR) sterilizers and washers, as well as Operating Room equipment for a multi-site operation. Assigns tasks and provides related training and orientation to FMO and other staff as required.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
Grade 10 plus extensive formal training from a major sterilizer manufacturer at the Specialist service level on a wide variety of hospital equipment such as Central Sterilization and Reprocessing (CSR) sterilizers and washers.
Detailed technical knowledge of applicable equipment at VIHA sites.
Two years’ recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certificate of Apprenticeship or Trades Qualification Certificate of competency in any mechanical or electrical trade, power engineering and/or engineering technology plus mandatory electrical limited license.
Demonstrated Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with others effectively.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to analyze equipment failures and make necessary repairs/modifications.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
Ability to organize work.
Ability to operate related equipment.
